Last year, our SPCA animal clinic and hospital attended to over 30 000 dogs and 15 000 cats ... an average of 144 pets per day! Although veterinary services are not provided free of charge, we offer rates subsidised through public donations for pets of underprivileged owners and pensioners who would otherwise not be able to take their animals to a vet.
From basic health checks and vaccinations, to serious illness and injury, this service offers a beacon of hope for animals that might otherwise be left to suffer – and we salute our generous supporters and the dedicated staff who make it possible.
Controlling Veterinarian, Dr Gilson Muchopa, has been with our SPCA for four years now and loves his job. “I know I am making a positive difference in many animals’ lives,” he says.
He enjoys witnessing the joy of owners when a beloved pet is saved. “The worst part of the job is when it’s too late to help the animal, or when I have to deal with uncaring, difficult owners,” he adds.
