The Durban & Coast Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (South Africa) is a registered non-profit organisation (002-312 NPO) and public benefit organisation (PBO 930001302), an incorporated
association not for gain and a member of the National Council of SPCAs.
We rescue abused and neglected domestic, farm and wild animals, promote responsible pet ownership, provide a shelter for strays, and a veterinary service for pets of underprivileged people.
We receive no state funding and are reliant on the community we serve for operating costs. Compassion costs nothing, but pet food, veterinary equipment and supplies, vehicles for transporting rescued animals,
etc does. If you would like to support your SPCA please click here to make an immediate donation online. We also gratefully accept donations of pet food
which may be dropped off at our premises in Springfield Park.

Two sister SPCA satellite operations provide services in Phoenix and Ballito respectively. Having satellite operations in areas of great need helps streamline our service to both animals and those who care
about them.
The Phoenix SPCA, situated at 163 Avonford Crescent, provides primary health care service for pets of disadvantaged owners who cannot afford the services of a private vet. Food is sold to assist with
fundraising. (031 500 6452)
Our satellite operation in Ballito functions as a depot, with the stray pound being situated at the Ballito Fire Station at 10 Leonora Drive, Ballito. Well-known Field Officer Nathi Ngisu is active in the area
with stray collections and animal rescues and brings strays and surrended animals to our Head Quarters at Springfield Park. Qualified Inspector Sabelo Ngcobo carries out inspections and cruelty investigations
on the North Coast. The satellite operation also includes a charity shop, The Dog Box, situated at the Balvista Centre, 22 Sandra Road, Ballito which is run entirely by a team of dedicated volunteers.
Funds generated by The Dog Box support all our efforts in animal welfare on the North Coast.
The SPCA movement began in England in 1824 and over the years, has spread across the globe. Almost every country in the world now has an SPCA.
Founded over 100 years ago in 1897, the Durban & Coast SPCA is the largest SPCA in KZN. Despite facing insurmountable odds through many difficult years, our SPCA has gone from strength to strength and become a
dynamic, recognised body, considered to be the foremost authority on animal welfare.
Far more than just an animal shelter and adoption facility, the SPCA plays a humanising role in society, educating people – especially children – about the rights of all living creatures, and working for better
legal protection for animals (particularly farm animals) and more severe penalties for perpetrators of cruelty.
NONE OF THIS WOULD BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT YOUR ONGOING SUPPORT
Provide care and shelter for one of the cats that live permanently at our SPCA because they cannot be re-homed – with your monthly sponsorship gift of just R200.
Volunteering is an enriching experience for anyone who has some free time on a regular basis and wants to make a difference. You need to be over 16 years of age, reliable and have your own transport.
Enjoy a cuppa or a light meal in the tranquil setting of our cafe and tea garden. Meet our famous yard cats, browse plants for sale, visit our charity shop or Adoption Centre.
If kindness towards animals has been one of the guiding principles of your life, wouldn’t you enjoy knowing that your voice against cruelty, neglect, greed and ignorance will continue to be heard beyond your lifetime?
Your unwanted furniture, clothing, household appliances, books, jewellery, etc can be sold in our charity shop to raise funds towards the care of our furry orphans. We also appreciate gifts of pet food, blankets, etc.
We have a charity shop filled with amazing bargains, as well as a section of brand new pet products – collars & leads, tick & flea remedies, grooming products, toys & pet food.
Fill your garden with beautiful healthy plants, seedlings, flowers and more. Large selection available at our nursery, adjacent to Coffee Cats.
When you sponsor a kennel at the SPCA at a cost of R200 monthly, your kindness doesn't only touch one dog. Hundreds of sad, hurting and frightened dogs will find sanctuary in 'your' kennel, while they wait to be adopted.
Animals can't speak for themselves - they need compassionate people to speak for them. If you know of an animal that is being ill treated or neglected, call us on 031 579 6501 or our emergency after hours number, 083 212 6103.
During the year, we run a series of fun events. Follow the links below for more information.
