Animal Angle: Why are so many human beings so cruel?

Research human evolution, and you will find that two hominid species were vegetarian browsers and four were meat-eaters. Evidence suggests that Homo sapiens evolved from a hominid species that hunted and killed for meat.

Since it won’t be long before ‘clean meat’ cultured from the cells of unharmed animals will be widely available, meat-eaters will be able to enjoy meat without the shadows cast by the processes that now precede getting meat onto our tables. However, there are many unacceptable processes that have nothing to do with meat-eating that need to be stopped because of the cruelty involved.

*Why does the cosmetics industry torture animals in order to test their cosmetics at a laboratory level? Please read the containers when you purchase such items and return every item to the shelf that does not contain the statement that it has not been tested on animals.

*Why are farm animals shipped alive under often appallingly cruel conditions to other countries?

*Why are free-roaming wild animals still kept in small cages in many zoos?

*Why are social animals like elephants so often kept utterly alone in zoos?

One increasingly reads on the Internet of animals that have spent decades completely separated from their own species and confined in small areas so that people can gawp at them for a few seconds.

Our next advance as human beings is very clear: Let us ban cruelty and support organisations that are fighting it. Take a positive step and support your SPCA. Donate now: www.spcadbn.org.za/donate.php
