We are pleased to advise the Ballito Community and all areas serviced by the Dolphin Coast satellite branch, that the branch is once again fully operational. Management at Durban & Coast SPCA had previously confirmed in a media release that two staff members were dismissed during May.

“We immediately put measures in place to ensure that our Inspectorate services to the community were uninterrupted. This involved Inspectors from head office in Springfield Park carrying out cruelty inspections in the area and our dedicated Dolphin Coast Field Officer, Nathi Ngisu, has seamlessly carried out rescues and collections of animals. Whilst we revisited operational plans it was necessary to temporarily transfer animals to the Springfield facilities but these operations have now reverted back to Ballito,” says General Manager Caroline Smith.

As of Monday 4th June it was 'business as usual' at the branch. SPCA Controller Krystal Pretorius, will be based at the Ballito branch overseeing adoptions, administration and kennel management. Ms Pretorius will work closely with well-known Field Officer Nathi Ngisu as well as Head Office Inspectors, to ensure that all reports are responded to swiftly.

The kennels are fully functional and are currently sheltering stray and unwanted dogs. The cattery is undergoing some minor maintenance work but will be functional within days.

We would like to reassure the local community of our steadfast commitment to the welfare of animals on the Dolphin Coast. We rely entirely upon your support in order to continue these services and appeal for your continued assistance and contributions. You are the backbone of this satellite branch. As always, we have an ongoing need for pet food, blankets and bedding as well as financial assistance. All donations are sincerely appreciated.

Please feel free to visit the branch to see first-hand the work that is being undertaken.
