If you found a lump in your beloved dog or cat’s abdomen – and you can’t even afford health insurance for yourself, let alone your pets. But, without veterinary treatment, your pet could suffer and die.

Every day, animal lovers like this queue up outside our SPCA clinic … filled with anxiety, hardly daring to hope that there is something we can do to help their ‘best friends’.

Our veterinary team always goes the extra mile to save precious pets’ lives. But, as a welfare organisation, we don’t always have the right equipment. And it can make all the difference when an animal’s life is at stake.

That’s why we hope you’ll help us raise R56 500 to buy two crucial new machines for our animal hospital.

Just last week our veterinary team removed a large tumour from a Boerboel – a procedure that comes with a high risk of bleeding. If we had an electrosurgical unit, a machine that keeps blood loss to a minimum in areas that are difficult to see or control, operations like this would be much safer.

Delivering exactly the right amount of fluids an animal needs during and after surgery is also crucial. This is what an infusion pump does. It’s particularly important for cats and small dogs undergoing major procedures, that require precise hydration for a successful outcome.

Apart from specialised surgeries, both machines would also be invaluable during routine procedures such as sterilisations – helping our veterinary team work more efficiently and safely.
