On 15 August, I will be swapping my comfortable bed for a sleeping bag and spending the night at the SPCA Springfield in support of an organisation that is very close to my heart.

I honestly cannot remember a time in my life when I did not have an animal as part of my family. The unconditional love, loyalty and companionship that our pets give us is priceless, and that is why I am passionate about supporting the incredible work of the SPCA.

This year, as the Umhlanga Women Achievers Achiever of the Year, and representing Rotary Club of Umhlanga, I have set myself a fundraising goal of R5,000. Every cent raised will help the SPCA continue its vital work caring for neglected, abandoned and abused animals.

The SPCA does so much more than rescue animals. They educate pet owners, promote responsible pet ownership, provide veterinary care, and ensure rescued animals are sterilised before being re-homed, helping to reduce the cycle of unwanted litters and animal suffering.

In their remarkable 130th year, I would love to help the Durban & Coast SPCA break all previous fundraising records. While one person may not be able to change the world, together we can change the world for many animals who desperately need our help.

I am asking you to consider making a donation, no matter how big or small. The price of a cup of coffee could help feed a hungry animal. A larger donation could help provide medical treatment, shelter, and a second chance at life.

Please help me reach my target of R5,000 and show our community that compassion has no limits.
