Successful Conviction

Well done to our dedicated Inspectorate team for achieving their second conviction for the year!

On 24th April in the Chatsworth Magistrates Court, we obtained a successful conviction against the owner of two neglected, starving dogs. After on-going welfare concerns, the dogs were seized under warrant by Inspector Ngcobo, after two written warnings for the provision of veterinary treatment were ignored.

Infested with ticks

The dogs were infested with ticks, malnourished and emaciated, and had hookworm infections. Unfortunately, they were too far gone to be saved and were humanely euthanised to release them from their suffering.

In August 2024, a case was opened against the owners, for animal neglect and failure to provide adequate food, water, veterinary treatment and a hygienic living area.

The owner, Candice Govender, entered a plea of guilty and was sentenced to a fine of R6 000, suspended for five years – and a denial of ownership was also imposed for a period of 3 years.
