Meet Cynthia – an animal lover just like you – who has lived in Durban all her life, and supported our SPCA loyally over the years.
“People can ask for help or draw attention to themselves. Even babies cry and will get help. But animals can’t ask for help.”
These are the words of long time SPCA contributer, Cynthia Broughton, and go a long way towards explaining her enduring support for our organisation. Cynthia has always loved animals – especially small lap dogs, like Minnie (pictured alongside) who came from the SPCA.
Sadly, Cynthia is not allowed pets where she lives now. But there is a black and white feral cat that has more or less ‘adopted’ her. Although the little cat doesn’t allow Cynthia to touch her, she does rub up against her and enjoys the tasty treats Cynthia leaves out for her.
Cynthia has two daughters, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She enjoys ‘dog sitting’ her daughters’ pets from time to time. We were happy to hear that at least one of Cynthia’s granddaughters has inherited her love of animals, and is currently studying equine science.
People like Cynthia and her family, who truly care about animals and want to help the ones that have been ill-treated or neglected, are the cornerstone of our work. We salute you!
