Sorry if this upsets you
We know it’s hard to look at
And even harder to understand
WHO DOES THIS TO A DOG?
Fastens a heavy chain around her neck and doesn’t notice that it’s biting deep into her flesh? Or was the dog so desperate to escape that she ripped her own neck open?
We’ll never know.
All we know is that someone noticed this young German Shepherd cross loose on the streets and reported her as a stray. It’s a miracle the dog wasn’t knocked down by one of the cars whizzing past. Even so, she could have endured days without food, growing steadily weaker as infection set in to the wound.
But thanks to this good Samaritan, we were able to race to the rescue.
Before she knew it, Nandi (as we named her) was in safe hands at our SPCA. Her wound was gently cleaned and stitched by our amazing vet, Dr Gilson. Then she was settled into a cosy kennel to recover, with a big bowl of food, water to drink and lots of TLC from our kennel staff.
Nandi healed beautifully – and charmed us all with her friendly, lively nature. We were sure we could find her a loving new home where she’d never be chained again.
But then she started coughing.
So, it was back to the clinic for more treatment. Kennel cough can last for weeks, and can develop into pneumonia in some cases. So we’re keeping a close eye on our furry survivor.
She’s been through so much already. We just need to make sure she’s safe and happy from now on. That’s where you come in.
If Nandi was the only dog in need of rescue, veterinary care, shelter, food and tummy tickles, we wouldn’t need to ask for your help.
But she’s one of 63 stray dogs admitted to our SPCA every single week of the year. Many need veterinary treatment or parasite control. All of them need shelter, food, love and care.
And that costs money.
As you probably know, we receive no state funding for the work we do for animals in distress. If not for animal lovers like you, who support our efforts so generously, we couldn’t continue.
For the sake of dogs like Nandi whose stories could have had a very different ending, please will you consider a donation to our SPCA right now?
