Hillary and Wendy

Friendship forged over love of animals

Hilary Hornek and Wendy Hewitt first met over a decade ago, while volunteering at our Dog Box charity shop in Ballito. United by their deep love of animals, and a shared passion for travel, the two quickly became firm friends.

Over the years, they enjoyed many adventures together, and went on several cruises. Most memorable among these was a trip down the Nile, exploring the fascinating antiquities of Egypt.

A lifelong vegetarian, Wendy has always felt an unwavering care and concern for all animals – whether domestic or wild. Leaving a bequest to our SPCA is an expression of her values and commitment.

For Hilary too, the decision to become a proud SPCA bequestor was the obvious way to ensure that her voice for animals will continue to be heard well into the future.

Their shared concern for animal welfare brought these two women together – and even though they now live in different retirement villages, they continue to meet regularly, and stay connected with our SPCA.

From time to time, they pop into The Dog Box – a place that not only changed the lives of many animals, but also brought them together.
