For 130 years, compassionate people like you have partnered with our SPCA to prevent cruelty to animals.

You’ve helped us rescue animals in distress … feed and care for them … treat their injuries and illnesses … find them new and better homes. And where it was too late to rescue suffering animals, you helped us prosecute those responsible.

You also helped us reach out to children – especially in disadvantaged areas – and teach them to treat all animals with compassion and kindness.

Yet, despite everything we’ve achieved over the past 130 years, animals continue to suffer gut-wrenching neglect, starvation and cruelty. They need our protection more than ever.

Because, there are still so many people who couldn’t care less about animals. To them, it’s ‘just’ a dog. ‘Just’ a cat. ‘Just’ a horse or sheep or chicken. As if their suffering – and their lives – mean nothing.

That’s why we can never stop our vital work. And why I’m hoping we can continue to count on your support in the months and years ahead.

If you’d like to celebrate our SPCA’s milestone 130th birthday with a gift, here’s our ‘wish list’ of suggestions.

	Commit to a monthly gift of R130 (or R260). It may not seem like much, but over the course of a year it adds up to a substantial amount that will make a huge difference.
	Donate 30kg of dry pet food or 30 cans or sachets.
	Go through your cupboards and donate 30 unwanted items (clothing, shoes, linen, furniture, jewellery, artwork, kitchenware or ornaments) to our charity shop.

	Consider leaving a bequest to the Durban & Coast SPCA in your Will. Those visionary animal lovers who started our SPCA 130 year ago are no longer with us. Yet their legacy lives on … stronger than ever. Use your Will to leave your own legacy.
