On the 29th September 2016 a dog was seized from its owner in Chatsworth. The dog was found chained and emaciated with his ribs, spine and hip bones clearly visible. The dog was clearly starved and left to suffer for a long time. He was unfortunately so malnourished, that the muscle wastage and internal organ damage was too severe and he had to be humanely euthanased.

The accused was sentenced to a fine of R10 000 or twelve months imprisonment, suspended for 5 years on condition that the accused is not convicted of the same during the period of suspension. The accused is further declared unfit to own or to be in possession of an animal for a period of 5 years. The accused was also ordered to pay compensation of R2000 to the SPCA.

We will continue to act as the voice for these abused and neglected animals. We have won this battle but the war on cruelty wages on.
